This project started with a replacement boiler that was not rated to the same amount of heat as the boiler it replaced. That lack of heat came with a dramatically more energy effect boiler but created an unhappy family during the coldest days of the winter.
We removed existing insulation, covered the power vent on the roof, vented bathrooms fans properly though the roof and foamed roof deck. Client has major moisture issues and potential deterioration of the roof… and of course COMFORT winter and summer.
The peak of the attic is almost 15’, making for a large number of square feet of usable space and the ability to save as much as 30-50% on heating meaning lower bills, a longer life for the existing equipment and the ability to improve how our home meets our needs.
The heating and air conditioning contractor recommended new equipment to solve the issue with the purchase of a new furnace and air conditioner, roughly $6K. (Not to mention the new even higher heating and cooling bills). No one wants to rip out the ceiling but, when this is the primary space for your family to gather and Dad is the only one hearty enough to watch the Bears Game when it is zero outside, in the family room… It is time to fix the issue!
Not every stain on your ceiling requires a major renovation project but this project started with condensation and a roof leak, a meeting with Chicago Green Insulation, an energy audit with one of the top auditors in all of Chicago, then roofing work and then removal of the drywall under all of the finished areas under the roof.
